7 Things We, Christian Bloggers often Forgets

It’s just the other day that I came to think how my words as a professed Christian Blogger impact you, Cheerful friends! Suddenly, God touches my heart to remind me of the thing I might have been forgotten. The things that should have been the real reason why I blog in the first place.

“Jen, you forget…” These words echoed to my ears and just won’t stop until I put them into writing. Because sometimes…

We forget our real purpose.

The purpose of a Christian Blog is to reach out to the lost souls, strengthens fellow brethren, encourage them and most importantly, glorify God (and may I add, to make you smile, too?). But even though, we are good on the first few we often fail in glorifying God as if (and this is most often true) our real purpose is to gain popularity and money.

Why we are here for? That’s the question we have to re-think if this is our case. I honestly do need to think about this.

We forget that we are not in-control.

We approach blogging as if we have in total control of its future, of its readers, of its impact and influence but, are we?

I realized this just when I felt the sudden fear of losing my husband lately. I am so afraid that time because I cannot contact him and I have no idea if he will ever return from work. I am that paranoid ever since as If I am not used to a long distance relationship.

I have a lot of what if’s in mind. I already have so much plan plotted already especially for my blog, for my kids, and for the house so long as he will provide. He should provide ’til all of these plans come true… (that’s how I care for him, money more than the person haha!) but that time, I find myself  totally lost control of him like someone who lost his dog on the other end of the chain.

Then a voice from within talks to me again, no it’s not thunderous this time. He’s very soft spoken telling me that “God is the only One who’s in control and no matter what happened, He will be there to help.” That’s a calm assurance. I was assured that I can still blog. I can still serve Him through my blogs because no matter what happened, He will be there. Good thing, my husband returned last Sunday afternoon. Safe and sound!

In life as in blogging, we should accept with humbleness that we are never in control of everything, Christ is. Often, we realize this when we are on our worst situation.

Our work is to just write whatever God wants us to write. That could be our daily truths, our own experiences, those things He gives us as food for thought, the changes that He is making in us and a lot real event that happens to us.

That’s all.

The control over the numbers and likes and views… don’t bother, let us leave them to Him and let His Words work it’s way to where and whom He had sent them. After all, we blog to please Him, right?

So, do not forget to show us that God is in control of your life and that He is in control even with the success of your blog.

We forget that our lives in reality is not perfect.

I am very much engrossed with Pinterest photos lately. I kick my butt out to take a lot of photos to post here and here. Unfortunately, no matter what I do, those photos and those that I am taking photos with were so imperfect (my face, my children’s faces and my cats). They just can’t measure up.

This is the same with my life–I don’t have a perfect life and unfortunately, I do not have the power to change this reality. I can give you a thousand bullet points on how I am perfecting my life each day but I think, even if you’re able to read this list from top to bottom, you will still find me in the end digging for a thousand more ideas because… well, I can’t perfect myself. I am unto perfection and God is the one who’s perfecting my life.

That, we must at least admit. We do not have to pretend that our families are perfect or we are perfect or we have a perfect house and children and cats… Oh yeah?

Do not forget to show us that you, too have flaws that you are working on with the help of God.

Remember, even our favorite heroes have flaws and that’s what made them human like us. In turn, that’s what made us attractive to them.

We forget that we don’t know all the answer.

reflecting
Hmmm! Contemplating

Do you? Even if we say we are in authority of our subjects, we still do not know everything about it. Only God is all-knowing, let’s give him that honor.

As I read my Bible (while I poop, sorry that’s the truth!) I can’t help but ask myself why does the Israelites have to kill many people? Why is King David and Solomon have many wives? Wasn’t it that the Ten Commandments given already that time? Thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not covet adultery? So, do you know the answer? I don’t!

My father and my pastor would always answer me, “Who art thou that repliest against God?” So the next thing I do was to just clam up!

Let’s face it, we do not know all the answers. What we can understand are limited only to what He allows us to understand, such is His mystery. So stick to what you know is true, don’t pretend you know it all and just be honest, okay?

We forget that we do not hold the future.

We cannot promise our readers this and that only to find out later that our blogs are… deleted? Shucks!

What we have is today. What are the things that we are doing today and in the past that we can write to help our readers? Focus on that and do not over promise. Overpromising is tantamount to lying, son of a mother trucker!

Mean it or not, if we do not hold our own future how much more with the future of others?

We forget that this is not our story.

This comes from Kara Tippets’ The hardest Peace. Our story is not totally our story but just part of God’s bigger story.

What we tell in our blogs are not ours but His and with that we must give Him glory. We cannot choose our stories, He chooses them for us be it good or bad. He writes our stories to be unique so we have something to share or to testify.

So please don’t own it but use it to give voice to your words and don’t forget to thank Him for always giving you new story every day. God is our source of topics.

Thanks that you’ve gone reading ’til here. What I really want to say is…

We forget to give back the glory to God.

That’s what I kept on re-iterating from the top down here.

We’ve been so focused on perfecting our crafts, in researching our topics, in making sure we have a Pinable and Instagramable photos, in ensuring that the post will get more likes and views, and in putting our names in the pedestal.

We forget… we forget it is God after all.

It is Him that we must give back the glory with.

It is Him to whom we must offer our talents.

It is Him that we should care to please.

It is Him who is at the back of this.

And no one else…

Now, Father, give me back the glory that I had with you before the world was created.

You have given me some followers from this world, and I have shown them what you are like. They were yours, but you gave them to me, and they have obeyed you. They know that you gave me everything I have.

John 17:5-7
